Rachel Walden was elected to the Arizona Corporation Commission in 2024 and currently serves as Vice Chair. She brings extensive experience in financial regulation, policy development, and community leadership, along with a longstanding commitment to public service and the people of Arizona.
Vice Chair Rachel Walden earned her Bachelor of Science with honors from Arizona State University. She pursued graduate studies at ASU, serving as a Teaching and Research Assistant and receiving a fellowship to study abroad.
Raised by a hardworking single mom of 5 children, Rachel developed a strong appreciation for self-reliance, perseverance, and civic responsibility. These values continue to inform her approach to public service and her focus on accountability, transparency, and effective governance.
Rachel spent more than a decade in the financial industry, including a leadership role at Vanguard, where she managed institutional accounts for nationally recognized companies. Her work included regulatory compliance, audits, and the implementation of government regulations. She was securities licensed and trained in fraud prevention, experiences that support her efforts to protect consumers and promote integrity in the financial marketplace.
In addition to her work on the Commission, Rachel serves on the Mesa Public Schools Governing Board, where she has prioritized academic achievement, fiscal responsibility, parental rights, and transparency in Arizona’s largest school district.
Rachel is committed to ensuring reliable and affordable utility services while maintaining a regulatory framework that supports economic growth and innovation. She supports a balanced energy portfolio to meet Arizona’s rapid growth, works to improve regulatory efficiency and to lower costs to better serve Arizona consumers.
