Commission Seeks Input on Business Filing System

PHOENIX — A new business filing system has turned the corner in the speed of processing following a new software installation. The Arizona Corporation Commission implemented a new system May 21, 2018, to process business filings for corporations and LLCs. Due to a significant increase in LLC applications, along with the implementation of a new system, customers have been experiencing delays in processing time. The Corporation Commission is happy to report the peak of filing process times was July 2.

“The fact that we have this problem is a good sign the economy is doing well, more entrepreneurs are striving to reach their dream of owning a business,” said Chairman Tom Forese. “Our filing times have shown a significant improvement in the past month.”

The Corporations Division currently processes between 650 to 700 business filings each day. On Monday, August 6, the Corporations Division reported expedited document types are taking an average of 14-20 business days to process. Non-expedited documents are being filed within 41-61 days.

One of the initiatives that helped the agency significantly improve the situation was working with the Governor’s Office of Continuous Improvement to implement LEAN principles in the Corporations Division.

“It is clear: you cannot manage something you’re not measuring,” said Patricia Barfield, division director for the Corporations Division. “We’re doing everything we can to work at the speed of business including the addition of staff and working overtime.”

The Corporation Commission would like to hear from the business community to ensure we are delivering the necessary business filing assistance in a timely manner. If you have questions on the process, please contact:
