Vice Chair Myers Votes to Send Lava Run Interconnection Project Back to Line Siting Committee

Dec 5, 2025, 14:57 by Nicole Garcia

Phoenix, Ariz.— At the Arizona Corporation Commission’s December 3, 2025, regular open meeting, Vice Chair Nick Myers joined the Commission in a 5-0 vote to send an application of CG Apache County Wind LLC and CG Apache County Solar LLC for Certificate of Environmental Compatibility (CEC) back to the Arizona Power Plant and Transmission Line Siting Committee (LSC) to receive input from Apache County and more fully address the concerns raised by the public (L-21365A-25-0198-00250).

The LSC had voted 8-2 to grant the applicants a CEC allowing them to construct a section of the Lava Run Interconnection Project, which includes 27-mile 345 kV alternating current transmission line that connects the planned Lava Run Wind Project (500 MW) and the Lava Run Solar Project (450 MW) with an on-site 450 MW battery energy storage system to Tucson Electric Power Company’s (TEP) Springerville 345 kV Substation.

“Although the Commission only has jurisdiction over the transmission and interconnection and not the wind and solar projects, I firmly believe it was the right decision to send the item back to the LSC,” stated Vice Chair Myers. “I don’t believe the concerns raised by the community have been fully addressed. It is also important for the LSC to receive input from Apache County before any further decisions are made.”

“I encouraged the applicants to reach out to the community and try to reach some kind of resolution,” said the Vice Chair. “Community notification is not the same as community engagement. The community needs to be heard, and their concerns need to be properly addressed.”
